Investing in Stocks

- Investing in stocks
- Three approaches – constructing a portfolio of well-run profitable businesses; owning the markets through low-cost index funds; hiring an advisor to build and manage a portfolio for you
- How to judge whether your advisor is earning his or her fee?
- Dividend paying stocks and the compounding power of reinvested dividends
- Learning the investment math – calculating present and future values, internal rates of return
- It’s difficult to be an investor if you don’t understand the investment basics
- How to calculate the future value of a child’s Roth IRA, how to calculate a mortgage payment, and how to determine whether it makes more sense to retire now when your practice may be at its peak value vs. working longer and selling ultimately for a lower price
- Analyzing a series of publicly traded companies (some brand names and some perhaps not) to determine whether, based on the investment math, whether we are likely to be satisfied buying these stocks at today’s prices

Learning Objectives:
Rates are finally rising. I will discuss what to invest in and why. Everyone keeps waiting to be told when we will be in a recession. In my opinion, it’s already started, and I will share the data that best explains it. You simply cannot increase the supply of money in the U.S. financial system by one-third and borrow another $7 Trillion and not expect inflation and interest rates to rise. I have tons of “yieldy” bond recommendations!
